Love what OPB is doing

@andrewphelps: Love what OPB is doing

OPB created a separate portal for news (not just a page) at opbnews.org. Local and national content (e.g., Planet Money) on the front page. Comments, blogs. Love it.

Experiment: A reporter delicious tags every source she reads for a story and then publicly shares that feed. Love it.

Experiment: A bureau chief publicly tweets all his story pitches/morning ideas and then follows up with links to stories that wound up being produced. Love it.

Experiment: All reporters get Flip cameras (these are like $120 apiece and have remarkable audio/video quality.) After finishing a radio story, reporters asked to do short, unedited, no-effort videos on the scene. Just tell the viewer what’s happening. Post it along with the story online. Love it.

The key is building “stickiness.” We already know this in radio. Big story draws users to our site, but we want them to keep coming back. Build a community to give them a reason to.
