Allie hit it right on the head tonight when she said that going to Jason‘s shows is like Christmas: they don’t come around here very often, but they’re very special and offer lots of surprises. Jason did not disappoint tonight. Some new stuff, lots of old stuff, and a bevy of variety-show hijinks to keep us entertained. The show was surprisingly low-energy, but not unemotional. Instead of rockin’ out like Mraz fans usually do, tonight was a return to Jason’s roots, with mostly solo performances (!) and scattered invitations to old friends. It was refreshing. Allie and I decided that a major part of the evening’s low-key feel was due to a large base of new fans, those who discovered his stuff through the mainstream and expected a mainstream performance. But Jason does anything but. He uses the stage to do his own thing, no matter what anyone says. And indeed tonight was impromptu, with mishaps turning into musical elements and an a capella “Curbside Prophet” finishing off the night. I say Jason’s shows are like snowflakes: Sure, no two are like, but they are all multi-dimensional and beautiful. You just have to experience one to understand it.
I wish I had more time to write my heart out — Jason Mraz is one of my literary idols, after all — but I’m too tired and I must wake up early to show some youngsters around KPBS.
Two nights of San Diego events, my favorite baseball team and my favorite artist. It feels good to be a local!

With Jason, expect the unexpected and the unconventional. He is purely authentic when it comes to being true to his potentials. It was beyond definition seeing him perform here in Manila, Philippines last February of this year. I certainly agree that one has to experience it in order to understand it, Andrew.
i saw jason on the 14th and the 15th, monday was a very special night for me, before the show i got to talk to him and hang for a few, then to my suprise during the concert he said oh so nonchalauntly “this one’s for jess” and started playing rainbow connection. It is now officially my song ;) funny how life can throw you suprises when you’re least expecting them and then keep on one cloud 9 for awhile…life truely is wonderful.
